Travels in Arcady
Tales from the Road
Arcady. That mythic land of bucolic perfection; an ideal rustic paradise, Shangri-La, a Garden of Eden. Dictionary definitions abound, but here it carries an allegorical significance in that in our journey through life, one carries within a template of the perfect which sits awkwardly with the wordly mundane reality encountered. In the tension between these: the Platonic ideal and the lived experience, this blog finds its rationale.
As my travelling in recent years has been focused upon the later life Pilgrimage I made in India, between 2019 and 2023, the underlying premises are mostly of a spiritual nature and constitute the lens through which I observe the world. The early posts in this blog date from the conclusion of this period, when the website was initially called ‘Forever Sadhu’, reflecting a theme of the higher quest in search of eternal truths, a quest one is ever engaged on. Encounters with the disingenuous, the reprehensible and the absurd, and, more occasionally, the inspirational and the wonderful from the world through which we journey, constitutes the inspiration for many of the tales that find their way into these posts.
